The clubs representative sides have commenced their campaign’s to win their respective National
Titles with first round wins in the Denny Cup, Egham Trophy & Top Club.
In the
Denny Cup the team had a comprehensive win against Church Gresley by 67 shots. Maintaining a nucleus of the side that lost to City of Ely in the final last year, with debutants Craig
Ward and Adam Pearce, and recalls, after unavailability last year, for Michael Bowley and Mark Roe,
the side comfortably won on all four rinks to progress to a second round game against local rivals
Gedling. Special mention to Craig Ward, who according to all accounts had a tremendous debut,
although some would ask whose bowl did not count when his rink picked up a count of seven!!!
Rink Scores:
Phil Bowles, Keith Burton, Ron Cowan, Phil Broughton WON 26-10
Matt Harris-Kime, Craig Ward, Matt Chambers, Brett Morley WON 30-10
Michael Bowley, Mark Roe, Russ Pearce, Duncan Robinson WON 28-10
Tim Mitchell, Adam Pearce, Mark Lee, Simon Skelton WON 26-13
The team for the Gedling game, on Sat 5
th November, shows two enforced changes, debutant Andy Clipstone in for Simon Skelton, and a recall for Bob Rose in place of Michael Bowley.
In the
Egham Trophy a potentially difficult tie against local neighbours South Forest was our first round task. It proved to be a close encounter, with our team, showing a number of fresh
combinations, overcoming an eleven shot deficit halfway through, finishing strongly over the last
few ends to help us run out victors by 30 shots. There were strong performances across all rinks,
particularly away from home by Mark Lee’s rink, and at home by Margaret Lomas, nominated player
of the rink by her skip.
Rink Scores:
Sue Mart, Margaret Lomas, Ron Cowan, Phil Broughton WON 29-14
Lillian Fletcher, Pam Cutts, Keith Burton, Russ Pearce WON 21-16
Helen Mason, Audrey Pinder, Tim Mitchell, Duncan Robinson WON 23-20
Jackie Turner, Elisa Griffin, Matt Chambers, Mark Lee WON 26-19
In the second round the team take on another local club, Erewash, on Sun 6
th November. A couple of changes see Denise Pearl make her debut in place of the unavailable Lillian Fletcher, and Tim
Mitchell makes way for debut of Andy Clipstone.
Finally the
Top Club team made their first defence of the National Title, won in Torquay last year, against Church Gresley. The team, showing one enforced change due to the unavailability of Elisa
Griffin, performed remarkably on a heavy indoor surface to win 13pts to 3pts, winning the mixed
pairs, mixed trips, and mixed fours, halving the ladies two bowls singles, and only suffering a loss
in the men’s two bowl singles by the narrowest of margins. Great team performance overall, but
special mention must go to the mixed fours combination, who continued their exemplary results
from last year. With Sarah Jenkinson replacing Elisa in the rink they overcame their opponents by
twenty shots. Next opponents are either Rushcliffe or Charnwood, with the date yet to be finalised.
Rink Scores:
Ladies Singles: Helen Mason Drew 12-12
Men’s Singles: Matt Harris-Kime Lost 13-14
Mixed Pairs: Sue Mart & Phil Broughton WON 25-18
Mixed Triples: Pam Cutts, Ronnie Cowan & Duncan Robinson WON 16-15

Once again we are hosting the National Championships which commence on Thursday 29 March 2012 and run for 10 days.
We have been extremely successful as a club in staging this prestigious event and this is due to our dedicated staff and members who are willing to help. Every year I am impressed with the support of the members who give of their time to assist us.Yet again I would appeal to anyone who is prepared in any way to help to see Julie (Centre Manager) and there are sheets up in the club. Don't forget, you get the best view of all if you are a marker.
In a change to the previous schedule, the event kicks off with the Men's Singles in which all the usual suspects from around the Country will play. Come along and see the very best players in action and have a good time. There is no entry charge to any of our own members.
